The PGY-1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency at Salina Family Healthcare Center is a 12-month, full-time program in a Federally Qualified Healtcare Center (FQHC) working with underserved populations in a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH).
Residency Program Purpose

PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Residency Program Description

The focus of this residency program is to develop a patient-centered approach to care while improving communication, cultural competence, and clinical skills unique to the populations served at Salina Family. This program offers the opportunity for a pharmacist to:

Provide direct patient care in an ambulatory setting, participate in team-based care, and provide clinical pharmacy services with innovative technology and advancements.

Serve as an educator of patients and healthcare providers, as well as instruct and precept pharmacy and medical students in various settings.

Facilitate interrelationships between, and within, the healthcare systems in our community to deliver high quality, culturally appropriate care and to improve patient transitions between care settings.

Understand the significance of the 340B Drug Pricing Program and necessary compliance in an FQHC setting.
